For the final I chose option #1 which involves researching 5 communications related jobs.
The first job that I found intriguing was one from Craigslist, for a company called Fight for Sight. Fight for Sight is a non-profit foundation that funds research into eye disease by new investigators. They provide promising young scientists the initial funding needed to start their eye and vision research. Fight for Sight is looking for an intern to manage communications to donors and alumni, create and promote fundraising events, and help with publicity, marketing, promotion, and social media. They are also seeking help with web management and design, and after viewing their website it is easy to see why. I found this job interesting because I think Fight for Sight is a great cause, but they could definitely improve their use of communication sights like Facebook, Twitter, blogs, etc. and they could also use help from a design aspect.
Another job listing that stood out to me was for the Bromley Group. The Bromley Group (TBG) is a hands-on public relations agency that creates and executes marketing, public relations, and special events programs for companies seeking to create stronger identities and achieve solid market positions. They are looking for an intern to work on high-profile footwear, lifestyle, beauty, junior retail, and home accounts. This job intrigued me because they are looking for someone who knows how to use social media sights such as Twitter and Facebook, and also Photoshop. Their intern would also be responsible for creating media alerts, press releases, and email blasts for blogs and newspapers. These blasts are designed in Powerpoint, which we’ve worked with a lot this semester, as well as blogging and engaging readers, so I think I would be well qualified for this position.
The third position I chose to explore was one with Andria Mitsakos Public Relations Agency, or AMPR for short. The agency works on high-end global lifestyle brands for travel, luxury, beauty and fashion industries. AMPR is seeking a communications coordinator with a journalistic mindset, strong verbal and written communications skills, and strong social media skills. The coordinator would also be writing press releases and press kit materials, maintaining and updating social media pages, and research blogs to add that would be helpful to clients. Since we have focused so much on blog usability this semester, I thought I could definitely contribute in this aspect of the position. I also thought I could contribute a lot in terms of designing press releases and kit materials with all the tips we’ve learned from Garr Reynolds.
Craigslist once again proved promising with a post from a company called Divvies. Divvies is a bakery company located in New York that focuses on making delicious snacks and treats that are completely allergen free. Divvies cookies, popcorns, and cupcakes are made in the company’s-own dedicated facility where no peanuts, tree nuts, eggs or milk enter the doors, and their candies, frosting, and sprinkles are certified by their manufacturers to be peanut-, tree nut-, milk-, and egg-free and are packaged in Divvies Bakery. Divvies is seeking an individual to fill a Social Media/ Marketing position, and to help implement a social media campaign and quickly and efficiently develop Divvies website. They are hoping to use social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter to reach target markets and develop interest in the brand. They are looking for someone who is knowledgeable in WordPress to upload stories and posts, and someone who is proficient in Microsoft Office applications and Photoshop. I am interested in this job because I believe there is a huge untapped market for Divvies in the blogging world, as well as on Facebook and Twitter.
The fifth and final job, well actually internship I found during my search was for a fashion PR company in New York. C&M Media is located in the heart of Chelsea, is a public relations and marketing firm that specializes in strategic planning for fashion, lifestyle, and luxury brands. They are a boutique agency that values client relationships and are committed to giving clients maximum attention and dedication. C&M is looking for an intern to support Social Media projects, track media coverage, and help plan and execute local PR events and campaigns. The intern will be creating and editing documents in Word, Excel, and Powerpoint and have strong written and verbal communication skills. I think this would be a great opportunity to learn more about the PR side of communications, and to integrate my knowledge of design and blogging into their social media strategy.
