DIY Welcome Baby Basket

Gift baskets have become my new obsession.  They’re a creative and thoughtful way to celebrate any occasion.  There are plenty of sites out there that sell pre-made gift baskets, but making your own is not only more cost-effective but it is infinitely more personal.

A family friend recently gave birth to a little girl, so I created this basket of goodies to welcome little Jane into the world.  First I purchased an adorable hamper that would serve as my “gift bag” and also repurpose to hold toys, diapers, etc. in the baby nursery.  To the basket I added:  light-weight swaddling blankets, bibs, hair accessories, a couple cute outfits and velvet baby hangers.

Here are a few suggestions to get you started on your own basket:

  • A basket, obviously! I love this Pottery Barn Pink Harper Chevron Pop Up Tote.
  • These aden + anais Bamboo Muslin Swaddlers are so light and comfy.
  • Velvet hangers ensure tiny outfits won’t slip.

Let’s Talk Leather

Leather is a major trend this fall season and I couldn’t be more excited, especially since faux leather is no longer a fashion faux pas.  It’s not only animal friendly, but also budget conscious.  Incorporating leather is a great way to add edge and flirty fun to your wardrobe.  You can dress it up for a night on the town or tone it down for the office.  This season marks the appearance of leather skirts, shirts, dresses and boots, which are incredible pieces to mix and match for dinner and drinks.  We also see pops of leather trim on sheaths and pencil skirts to add oomph to work outfits.  And of course we cannot overlook the timeless leather jacket.  Ranging in style from a chic biker-chick crop or a longer more classic interpretation, a jacket is a phenomenal way to leather up your look without a drastic overhaul.  My personal favorite is the leather legging.  Whether you are looking for leather, faux leather or denim textured to look like leather, leggings are the must have accessory for the season.  Pair them with boots, flats or your favorite stilettos and you have a flattering, on trend look for any occasion.

Try these MICHAEL Michael Kors Faux-Leather leggings:

Or for a cheaper alternative the Kardashian Kollection for Sears has this option:

For leather textured denim, Ann Taylor LOFT has an affordable pair:

Quilted Jacket from Zara

I just bought this incredible quilted jacket from Zara.  It has a removable fur collar and is a hunter green color with brown suede trim and elbow patches.

I’ve been obsessively checking the weather and praying for it to turn cold enough to wear this little baby!

Royal Wedding

What I wouldn’t give to have been at the Royal Wedding! First of all because I’m obsessed with Kate Middleton:

  • She’s gorgeous
  • Fashionable
  • Charitable
  • British
  • ummm and now she’s a PRINCESS
Basically she’s perfect, and she was the perfect bride in her Alexander McQueen gown. She even had a princess fairy tale wedding, and said her vows in Westminster Abbey, which is by far my favorite church I’ve ever been too.

JEALOUS.

Obsessed with OPI

I’m pretty OCD about painted nails and since Spain isn’t so big on manicures, I’ve been stuck painting my own. Since I only brought a few bottles with me to Madrid, and I haven’t been able to find OPI sold anywhere, I had my Mom mail me a couple of bottles.

Obviously my favorite broke during shipping, so I’m writing this post in memory of the perfect spring color:

I’m NOT a Waste of Life!!!

I’ve been super stressed applying for internships and figuring out what to do with my life.  I sent out at least 15 different cover letters and resumes, and was freaked out by how few responses I received, so I sent out another 20 applications.  I’ve had a couple interviews, and a few offers, and now

OFFICIALLY HAVE AN INTERNSHIP FOR SUMMER 2011.

I’m going to be working for Haute Living Magazine in NYC three days a week writing, editing, blogging, and interviewing, and I can’t wait. They cover celebrities, influential people, travel, food, fashion, sports, basically everything so I get to dabble in all sorts of writing. My official letter of acceptance was emailed today, and the position was cleared with SJU so I will be getting credit for it.

Baby Sleeping Bags

Yes, you read right! Baby sleeping bags are all the rage in Europe right now. Uhh maybe because they are GENIUS?!  The Gro Company, based in the UK, manufactures what they call the Grobag.  The bags have been tested and proven not only safe, but also more effective than normal baby blankets.  A Grobag is basically like overalls with one pant that zips around both the legs and feet, creating a sleeping bag that moves with baby:

The Gro Company has also created a line of travel Grobags that have a velcro opening in the back to fit a car seat buckle through.  Plus there are two zippers on the front: one that zips down, and one that zips up to make sure the Grobag stays closed and cozy around baby:

Is it sad that I now want a baby ASAP just to buy cool accessories like this?
